What MBMS Community Members Are Doing to Make a Better World

As we tune into the news and see what is happening in our world, near and far, we find our hearts breaking and our anxiety rising. Earth and all her beings are in a period of Great Transition … change is messy, uncomfortable, and brings loss. Change is also a necessary part of growth, evolution and transformation.

Research shows that taking action -- local or global -- in service of a cause that inspires not only serves the cause, but also reduces anxiety while increasing a sense of purpose and hope. In service of cultivating connections in the MBMS community, we’ve been excited to create a new Topic area on our community platform. Inspired Actions offers a space for conversations, announcements and encouragement about opportunities to respond and assist .. and to let people know what you are being called to!

Our practices of Being Aware and Being Kind do not just happen on the cushion ... We meditate and then activate, in service of cultivating peace inside and out!

Our practice forms the foundation of our actions in the world. Spiritual Activism is the process of cultivating change from a place of awareness and compassion with a consciousness of Interbeing -- how we are being together is what creates the world we live in.

Through the Inspired Actions Topic, community members are invited to share how they’re being inspired to Spiritual Activism, in order to recognize and encourage community members who are taking skillful and deliberate steps to contribute to "the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible" (Charles Eisenstein).

Whatever field calls us to action — environmental protection and regeneration, anti-racism and racial equity, economic justice, education, healthcare, political process -- any action that we take in service of increasing compassion and understanding matters. We invite each member to share what they're doing, what challenges and inspires them, and what opportunities they find to grow,  as well as to respond and join in with the inspired actions of others.

Thich Nhat Hahn stated "The next Buddha may be a Sangha." Others have said that the changes being called-for now can happen only in community. By embodying the foundations of this community, you play a part in cultivating a world of being aware and being kind. Let us know the opportunities that you find for Inspired Actions ... your sharing then becomes inspiration for all of us.
