Contemplative Cosmology: Sitting with the Lunar Eclipse

“Lunar Eclipse: Sizzlin’ Syzygy”

A Virtual Night-Sky Event

with Marianne Rowe & Stephan Martin

For thousands of years, the occurrence of  Lunar Eclipse has evoked fascination, fear, and awe. It has been the source of mythic tales and the inspiration for ceremonies and rituals. Even though we now have  scientific data and a cognitive explanation for this phenomenon, Mystery and Wonder remain in its viewing.

Syzygy is an astronomical term for the alignment of three or more bodies – in this case, the sun, moon, and Earth. When we view the Lunar Eclipse, we become a fourth body in the alignment.

As the stars are setting in the Eastern US and rising on the West Coast, astronomer and author Stephan Martin (located in North Carolina), along with meditation teacher and psychotherapist Marianne Rowe (located in California), invite you to turn your attention to the mystery of the cosmos. As we pair imagination with astronomical science, evocative questions, and guided meditation, we open the door to Deeptime perspective, sensing expanded relationship and infinite potential.

Through an audio-only Zoom call, we simultaneously and collectively contemplate and celebrate the cosmic dynamics of Alignment and Balance while viewing, what Thomas Hardy called the “imperturbable serenity” of a Lunar Eclipse.
